The League of Planets is an organization dedicated to peace between the worlds. They built their headquarters in Tomorrowland on Earth, where they operated Tomorrowland's star-port Space Station 77 and the interstellar debate hall known as the Tomorrowland Interplanetary Convention Center.
The group has a long history of mobilizing supporters, clubs and players to take action on climate change. It has seen 200,000 verified eco-friendly actions, including things like taking public transportation, recycling plastic and eating meat-free meals, registered on its platform. Players like former Tottenham winger Lucas Moura and former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher have participated in the activities.
But the most important way the group is helping clubs reduce their carbon footprint is by focusing on fan engagement. Its Planet League Cup tournament has 71 clubs competing to win the trophy by inspiring their fans to complete "green actions" during five weeks of competition. This includes completing the 'Green Football Challenges', such as eating meat-free meals and using reusable bottles when drinking water.
Its teams help clubs with their sustainability goals by offering advice, resources and support in various areas. They also assist with delivering environmental training to the club and its fans. This includes educating young people about the importance of protecting the environment, and how to make simple changes in their everyday lives.
This work is done in collaboration Planetliga with a number of partners, including environmental bodies and the UEFA Foundation. Its partners include environmental and social impact assessment experts, energy and power companies, banks, insurers, food manufacturers and other large businesses, and a wide range of charities, community groups and government agencies.
While the planet liga has its roots in football, it has since expanded to other sports and beyond. Its unique tournament format has attracted many new fans, and is also used by a number of universities and schools to teach students about sustainability.
A player's League position is determined by their performance in a season of League sanctioned games. A player's placement in each game determines their League Point total, and the team with the most points at the end of a season takes the top spot in the Echo Cluster until challenged by another team. During a season, a player may choose to participate in a maximum of two Long Format and/or a limited number of Short Format games. The League Coordinator handles all penalties, and a minimum of two games will be suspended for any player receiving a Gross/AOO or Match penalty. Exceptions to this rule can be made on a case-by-case basis, and are subject to the approval of the League Coordinator. Report this page
